In this lesson we will learn our first set of nouns of locality. A noun of locality is a word that shows direction and locality. With the nouns of locality in this lesson we can state the position of something relative to another thing.

Yàodiàn zài bīnguǎn pángbiān .		 The pharmacy is next to the hotel.
饭店在花店后边。
Fàndiàn zài huādiàn hòubiɑn. 		The restaurant is behind the flower shop.
玩具店在网吧前边。
Wánjùdiàn zài wǎngbā qiánbian.		 The toy store is in front of the internet cafe.
洗衣店在公园对面。
Xǐyīdiàn zài gōngyuán duìmiàn.		 The laundry is across from the park.
我的宿舍在校园里边。
Wǒ de sùshè zài xiàoyuán lǐbiɑn.		 My dormitory is inside the campus.

Qǐngwèn, Dàwáng Lǚguǎn zài nǎlǐ?
B: 在那家饭店旁边。
Zài nà jiā fàndiàn pángbiān.
大卫: 我看不见啊！

Zhèbian yǒu jiàoshī cāntīng.		 On this side there is the teacher's dining hall.
那边有电脑房。
Nàbian yǒu diànnǎo fáng. 		On that side there is a computer room.
食堂的旁边有澡堂。
Shítáng de pángbiān yǒu zǎotáng.		 Next to the cafeteria there is a public shower facility.
图书馆的后边有公园。
Túshūguǎn de hòubiān yǒu gōngyuán.		 Behind the library there is a park.
宾馆的前边有网吧。
Bīnguǎn de qiánbian yǒu wǎngbā.		 In front of the Internet bar there is a hotel.

Notes:

在 zài and 有 yǒu can both be used in defining location. 在 zài however refers to the location of a specific thing, the supermarket, the school, whereas 有 yǒu indicates the general existence of something, a supermarket, a school.

Cèsuǒ? Yǒu, cèsuǒ zài qiánbian.
